Although it’s been a busy year, it’s also been a sad year with the passing of Francois my French Lop/Flemish Giant mix. He was a gentle giant and lived to nearly 10 years old.

It’s always hard to lose a dear bunny, or any pet. I’m sure all of you have had to go through it before. There are many bunnies in shelters waiting to fill the hole in our hearts, when enough time has passed.

I’ve made a list of some ways we can all help shelter bunnies this holiday season and throughout the year:

Drop off some fresh vegetables

Drop off some hay

Volunteer to help clean cages, or socialize bunnies to get them ready to find their forever home by petting and brushing the bunnies living in shelters and rescues.

Drop off some toys or pieces of safe wood for the bunnies to chew, so they aren’t bored while waiting in their pens and cages for their new family.

If you can’t donate items or time, consider making a donation to your local shelter, rescue, or the House Rabbit Society. The holidays are a great time to give to those less fortunate than ourselves and our bunnies.

As always, remember to keep your bunny safe and away from all the tempting sparkly holiday decorations and chocolaty delights. And don’t let all that fur fool you; although bunnies do handle cold temperatures better than they handle heat, they still get chilly.

As my tribute to the holidays, I’ve re-written a classic holiday song with a twist for your special furry friend.

While you are enjoying special holiday meals and treats, don’t forget to make a special holiday snack for your bunnies.

Bunny Christmas Trees

(Serves Two)

Any type of ripe melon (cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew)

Escarole, Romaine, or Endive (sliced or shredded) 1 cup per bunny

Dried cranberries, or a diced fresh grape or two for decoration.

Lay the lettuce on a bunny safe dish.

Cut from the melon a tiny triangle, or star shape, one for each bunny. You can use a knife or mini cookie cutters. Remember, bunnies shouldn’t have too much fruit so a small piece will do. Approx. 2” x 1-1/2” x 1-1/2” by 3/8” thick.

The triangle will resemble a Christmas tree and you can decorate your bunny’s trees, or stars, with diced pieces of cranberry or grapes.

Serve with a side of hay, mixed with some chamomile or dried roses.

Bun Appetit!

We want to thank all of you for being loyal customers over the years. This coming year, 2017, will mark our 20th year in business. We couldn’t have done it without your support. We are happy your bunnies enjoy our toys, and we will continue to add a variety of toys to bring out the Funny in your Bunny.

We wish you and your furry ones a very Hoppy Holiday Season, and a Hoppy New Year!
